Diamond cut alloys are perhaps the most popular type of alloys on the market. A favourite because of their sleek appearance, they enhance the look of vehicles – no matter what type of vehicle you have. But the process that it takes to achieve the shiny effect requires a skilled team of technicians to undertake and simply can’t be done by anyone.
At Lepsons, we have a team of expert lathe operators who work together to achieve this polished metal effect. Using their years of experience, they will ensure that each of the wheels is looked after throughout the process. Putting your requirements at the forefront, we want you to have alloys that you can’t wait to show off to your family and friends.
After we determine the size of your alloys (we offer this service for alloy wheels from 18 to 24 inches), along with the look that you want to achieve (if you have a specific colour requirement, it’s advisable that you visit our workshop where you can pick the exact colour that you want on the interior of the rim) we will get started.
We offer a wide range of colours at our workshop – varying from the more subtle hues to more vibrant choices. If you know the colour that you want, after requesting a quote online and visiting our workshop, we can advise you on exactly how much the process will cost.
A Thorough Process
Each workshop performs this task differently. Our method uses a manual lathe – in which the speed the lathe runs at and the exact angles required are input manually or with a CNC (computer numerical control) lathe, in which the pattern is created digitally by a computer. Recognising that there are certain elements that one method can do better than the other, we will choose the most suitable approach for your particular wheel.
Paying close attention to each detail, the end result will be to a far higher standard. Ensuring that each customer can receive a more bespoke and high-quality service, our methods are second to none.
We are also one of the only UK refurbishers that are able to handle wheels that are over 21 inches. This, along with the fact that we offer exceptional customer service is why so many opt for our diamond cutting services above our competitors.
Here is how we diamond cut alloy wheels:
- Each of the wheels are detached from the tyres at the start of the process and will be prepared through a chemical stripping process. Any product will be removed so that it’s back to bare metal.
- Wheels are then prepped by hand and shot blasted.
- Each wheel is quality checked before it’s primered then painted in your choice of colour.
- Once the paint has been applied, a lathe with a diamond-tipped cutter will remove a thin layer of material from the face of the wheel until the desired effect is achieved.
- Once the wheel has been cleaned and quality checked, a protective clear coat lacquer is applied. Once the final quality check has been carried out, we check that the tyre is mounted and balanced, before refitting it back onto the vehicle.

Things To Consider With Diamond Cutting
There are several important things that you should consider when it comes to having your alloys diamond cut, such as – whether they have been cut before (the process can only be carried out a certain amount of time), the level of corrosion or damage that your wheels have and if the wheel has embossed wording on it (as some of this could be removed by the process).
